Odds and Ends: RR, Airbus milestone; C919; first flight videos

Rolls-Royce, Airbus Milestone: Aviation Week reports that the two companies reached a design milestone for the engine on the A350-1000.

C919 nearing ‘critical’ stage: Flight Global reports that the COMAC C919, China’s bid to challenge Airbus and Boeing in the 150-210 seat sector, is nearing a critical design stage. COMAC also discusses some of the issues with its ARJ21 in the article.

  1. I managed to make it out to BFI for the landing and we had a UPS MD-11 come in right before the -9 for comparison. Considering the tri-jet was lauded as a quiet airplane back when it first came out it’s amazing to see how far the acoustics of modern aircraft have come.

  2. 2013 will go down in history as the year that three fabulous aircraft made their first flight in quick succession. And each one of them has the potential to be a hugely successful programme. The 787-9 is only a variant and not a new type, like the other two are, but it can still be viewed as a new start for the Dreamliner.
