BOEING & BEYOND: THE FUTURE OF FLIGHT IN OUR STATE

SEATTLE―Today, The Boeing Company represents nine out of 10 aerospace jobs in Washington state and provides money and security for everyone living here. Soon, it will deliver the 787 Dreamliner to its first customer, amidst discussion of a 2012 strike. What’s next on the horizon for the company, its planes and its people? What does it mean for you?

KIRO 7 Eyewitness News presents Boeing & Beyond: The Future of Flight in Our State. Hosted by  KIRO 7 Eyewitness News Anchors Steve Raible and Angela Russell, this special program airs on Wednesday, October 20, at 7 p.m. on KIRO 7.

Jim Albaugh, Executive Vice-President of The Boeing Company and President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airlines, speaks frankly about the company’s current state and plans for its future. In addition to the 787, he discusses the next generation of 737’s, 747’s and 777’s, and the challenges each faces, including the possibility of moving production out of state and increased competition. He also addresses the labor unions and talks of a strike in 2012.

Labor leaders point out the reasons why there may be a strike and what the company can do to prevent it. Boeing & Beyond gives a clear picture of the people who comprise the two unions—Aerospace Machinists and the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace—and what it means to be a union member.

Governor Christine Gregoire and other local leaders talk about how to make Washington an aerospace hub, not just for Boeing but also for competing companies. The program also looks at Boeing’s Defense work, where some of its greatest risks, and potential rewards, are wrapped up together in its bid to build the next generation of refueling tankers for the U.S. Air Force. And finally, Boeing & Beyond showcases the future of flight: tours through space being developed under a contract with NASA.

Scott Hamilton, KIRO 7 aviation expert, provided in-depth analysis for Boeing & Beyond. His exclusive counsel in the market ensures that KIRO 7’s viewers get the latest and most complete news about the aviation industry.

Boeing & Beyond: The Future of Flight in Our State airs on Wednesday, October 20, at 7 p.m. on channel 7 and Comcast 107. It will be rebroadcast on RTV 7.2 and Comcast 117 on Monday, October 25, at 8 p.m.

  1. Your knowledge of the IAM is suspect from the start. There isn’t a site called “Boeing IAM Site” as you have listed in “Associations”. If you are speaking of the IAM&AW District 751 website, that is a Union website and has nothing to do specifically with the Boeing Company. We are IAM members, some who work for Boeing but some who work for other companies. The Boeing Company does not have an IAM Site

    • The reference is only to distinguish the IAM at Boeing from the IAM at other companies; in the nearly 2 years this (and “Boeing SPEEA”) has been up there, yours is the only one to question this shorthand.

  2. Well then, let me also question the uninformed use of the term. The proper way to distinguish them would be the Machinist Union at Boeing. We are not, never have been, and NEVER will be the Boeing IAM. We are PROUDLY independent of the Boeing Company. As for the two years, apparently this site is not well read.

    • It’s not “uninformed use,” it’s pure shorthand. When you do your own blog, you can ID however you like. This is nitpicking.

  3. all hail the great thinkers of the IAM above. To complain and attempt to ridicule an AVIATION INDUSTRY intelligence site for referring to the IAM 751 as the “Boeing IAM”, maybe this is an hint to the trouble between Boeing and the IAM751 at the last negotiation round. To spend so much effort to search and imagine slights and insults where non are intended tends to make agreements difficult.
