Rolls-Royce, PW may be feuding but extend IAE to 2045

The feud between Rolls-Royce and Pratt & Whitney over patent infringements is nasty and in court, and the Rolls-Royce view that it doesn’t think much of the PW Geared Turbo Fan technology is well known, but speculation that this would lead to the dissolution of International Aero Engines in which both are partners can now be put to rest.

The joint venture has been extended to 2045. The announcement is here.

The sole IAE product is the V2500 engine and for the moment it is Rolls’ remaining entry into an active single-aisle airliner program (the Airbus A320). Rolls offered the RB282/RB285 to Airbus to re-engine the A320, but Rolls Airbus selected PW’s GTF and CFM’s LEAP-X instead.

Don’t you mean Airbus selected the P&W GTF and CFM Leap-X? Why would RR not select their own engines?
