Personnel changes for LNA announced

Oct. 9, 2023, © Leeham News: Leeham News announces several personnel changes today.

Bryan Corliss, who has been a Contributor to LNA for years, is leaving to become a corporate communication specialist with The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA). SPEEA is the engineers and technicians union for Boeing and Spirit AeroSystems. LNA is sorry to lose Corliss’ depth of aerospace and labor knowledge. Corliss’ email with LNA will be active for a month so readers may connect with him.

New Contributors

Joining LNA as Contributors are Dan Catchpole, Gordon Smith, and Chris Sloan.

Dan Catchpole

Catchpole succeeded Corliss years ago as the aerospace reporter for the Everett Herald, where he covered Boeing, union/labor issues, and related aerospace supply chain topics. These topics and Spirit AeroSystems will be his assignment. Catchpole has covered news from Seattle to Tbilisi. He wrote about the aerospace industry for Leeham News & Analysis, Fortune, the Everett Daily Herald, the Associated Press, and other outlets. He was twice a member of a team nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. He lives with his wife and their three children in Seattle. His email is dan (at) leeham.net.

Gordon Smith

Smith is a UK-based aviation journalist. As former Group Editor of Airliner World magazine, he has covered many of the biggest industry stories of recent years from a global perspective. He writes extensively on a range of specialist industry topics with his informed insight and commentary going beyond the headlines. Before his pivot into aviation journalism, Smith was a broadcast journalist at BBC News headquarters in London, producing television coverage of breaking stories from around the world.  Smith will cover the supply chain, Airbus, European-based engine makers, and related stories. Chris Sloan

Sloan is joining LNA on an interim basis covering the supply chain. Sloan is a long-time aviation journalist, senior editor, and analyst with publications including Air Transport World, Aviation Week, Flight Global, Airliner World, Airways, and CNN. Sloan is known for his strong access and on-the-spot coverage of major industry events and executives. His unique fascination with “firsts” and “lasts” finds him covering inaugural routes and flights onboard the A380, A350, 787, A220, 747-8I, as well as the last DC-10, and U.S. scheduled operations of the MD-80. Sloan is curator and webmaster of TheAirchive.NetThe hub of the history of Air Transport. He is also an Emmy Award television producer and entrepreneur owning 2C Media, a major production company and entertainment agency. His philanthropic efforts are a significant portion of his life, as co-founder of Caleb and Calder Sloan’s Awesome Foundation. When not on the road, Sloan resides with his son and wife in Miami and Key West, Florida. His email is chris.sloan (at) 2c.tv.

Scott Hamilton is reducing his editorial contributions to LNA in order to devote time to writing his second book, a sequel to his first, Air Wars, The Global Combat Between Airbus and Boeing.

  2. Thanks, Rick and Sam. I won’t be doing much “corporate” communications for the union, but I’m looking forward to my new role at SPEEA, and to reading the contributions from Dan, Gordon and Chris.,
